About Me

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, I am currently an Industrial & Systems Engineering PhD student at the University of Wisconsin Madison with an interest in expanding my knowledge and skills in Causal Inference, Statistics and Simulation. Before that, I was a student at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez where I completed my bachelor’s degree also in Industrial Engineering in 2022. On the other hand, I also had the opportunity to work as a Supply Chain Analyst at Merck & Co. and as a Global Planner for Ethicon LLC before joining UW-Madison.

Causal inference brings other point of view of analyzing data. Moreover, it can lead to knowing what events precedes or could have an impact to a specific phenomenon in a system. My professional interest is to be able to solve real life problems using data and would like to apply statistical, simulation and optimization techniques to healthcare and manufacturing topics where causal inference can also be used. Therefore, my research experience has been focused on Feature Selection and Machine Learning techniques applied to biological, clinical, and manufacturing data.

Currently, I’m working under the supervision of Dr. Gabriel Zayas-Cabán applying causal inference techniques to healthcare problems. Specifically, on a research project that aims to introduce this discipline to study relationship between molecular tumor characteristics to the racial disparity in mortality experienced by colorectal cancer survivors.
